He ended his collegiate career with an unprecedented double win in the 3000m steeplechase and 10,000 meters at the 2003 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Sacramento, California. He became only the second man, and first American, ever to win three consecutive NCAA steeplechase titles. He won the Commissioner’s Trophy for scoring the most points at the SEC Outdoor Championships with 26, winning the steeplechase and taking second in the 10,000m and 5,000m. In 2003, he was named the NCAA Division I National Scholar Athlete of the Year by the United States Track Coaches Association
