Brew was the National Junior College indoor and outdoor champion while he was at Barton Community College. He became the outdoor 400m JUCO record-holder in the 400m by running 44.53 in 1998, the eighth fastest time in the world at that point in time. He was the Texas State Champion in the 400 meters while in high school. Was also a standout football player in high school. Majored in business management at LSU.
