5000m Long Distance
It is a race that requires a careful allotment of energy and application of proper breathing exercises, with speed taking a backseat to everything else. True, that this remains a race, and races are won by getting to the finish line first, but there is more to races than speed, and for the 5 km race, tactics, excellent anaerobic conditioning and pacing is the way to victory. The recommended training to gain a competitive edge in this event is a whopping 60 – 200 kilometers a week, though training regimens vary from person to person.
