Valerie Vili Performs Exceptionally in Valencia Games
Valerie Vili is overjoyed to be at the top of her game, and has set her sights on the gold at the Beijing Olympic Games. She had added the world indoor shot put title yesterday to her outdoor title won in Osaka Japan last year.
Vili had completely floored the other seven competitors in the first putting round in the games held in Valencia, Spain, with her outstanding shot put out to another Oceania and New Zealand indoor record of 20.19m. The new record was a definite improvement from the previous one she got during the qualifying rounds, which was 19.72
Vili made a further throw over 20 metres, 20.07m in the third round, followed by 19.68m in round four and a stunning 19.89m in the sixth and final round, giving her the distinction of having three throws that would have won gold.
Her arch rival, Nadzeya Ostapchuk of Belarus, placed second at the outdoor championships and stayed second in this round with 19.74m. The third placer was Meiju Li or China, who had a shot of 19.09 m in the final round.
Vili was overjoyed with her remarkable success and incredible performance, which won her US $40,000. She said that competition was indeed a very tough and very competent one, for which she could only be glad. She was happy performing in such outstanding facilities, as she expresses a certain lack of them in New Zealand.
Her double 20-meter shots lifted her spirits to soaring heights, as she kept plans of bagging Beijing gold close to her heart. She understands completely that the Olympics is a very different competition.
On the other side of the fence, Ostapchuk expresses her disappointment in herself. She attributes her performance to an ill-fated fever, and laments her disthronement from indoor leader.
